A sophisticated maritime transformation that anchors traditional bones with bold geometric patterns and lush greenery.

This transformation takes your already beautiful living room and elevates it to a professional designer showroom level. The star of the show is the navy and white Greek Key rug, which provides a graphic anchor that perfectly complements the rich cognac leather of your club chairs and the deep charcoal velvet of the sofa. By introducing high-contrast textiles and streamlining the decor, we've created a space that feels both classic and Refreshingly modern. We replaced the smaller, mismatched accent pieces by the window with a sleek navy velvet storage bench, creating a cleaner and more purposeful focal point that frames the bay window beautifully. The addition of the large-scale Bird of Paradise plant brings a much-needed organic element to the corner, softening the architectural lines and adding a vibrant touch of life to the sophisticated color palette.

About the Original Room

The original room was a handsome, well-appointed space with a solid traditional foundation and high-quality pieces. However, the lack of a grounding rug made the furniture feel somewhat unanchored, and the neutral wall-to-wall carpeting lacked the visual punch needed to make the navy accents truly stand out.

Transformation Journey

We began by grounding the entire room with a bold navy rug and transitioning the floor to a warm wood tone to create a high-end foundation. We then layered in 'Refined Nautical' elements through textiles—swapping the varied brown pillows for crisp, piped whites and blues—and simplified the accessorizing to let the architectural features of the room and the quality of your existing furniture shine.

Designer Notes

I love how the navy accents pull the blue from your existing porcelain lamps and spread that color story throughout the entire room for a more cohesive feel. The transition from carpet to wood flooring really allows the navy rug to act as a centerpiece, and the white piping on the new pillows creates a perfect visual bridge between the dark sofa and the bright walls.
