A dated traditional space reborn into a light-filled, sophisticated coastal sanctuary for modern hosting.

We have completely reimagined your dining room, moving away from the heavy, traditional aesthetic of the past toward a breath of fresh air. The most striking change is the removal of the dated floral wallpaper and green carpeting, replaced by elegant white wainscoting and stunning light oak hardwood floors. The 'Sea Salt' blue walls create a serene backdrop that makes the entire room feel larger and more inviting. The furniture selection balances sophistication with comfort. The heavy oak hutch has been replaced by a streamlined coastal sideboard, while the new trestle table is surrounded by striking black cane chairs that add a touch of modern contrast. Finished with a geometric lantern chandelier and soft linen drapes, this space is now a perfect blend of coastal relaxation and transitional elegance.

The room now evokes a sense of calm and airy sophistication, feeling like a high-end coastal retreat that is both welcoming and polished.

Key Improvements

• Replaced dated floral wallpaper and borders with classic white wainscoting and soft blue-green paint
• Swapped heavy green carpeting for light-toned European oak engineered hardwood flooring
• Exchanged the bulky traditional hutch for a modern, low-profile coastal oak sideboard to open up the space
• Updated the heavy gold chandelier with a contemporary brushed nickel lantern fixture

• Strategic use of greenery with a fiddle leaf fig to bring life and height to the corner

Color Story

The palette is centered on 'Sea Salt' blue-green and crisp whites, creating an oceanic freshness. This is grounded by the warm, sandy tones of the oak flooring and punctuated by bold black accents in the seating and hardware.

About the Original Room

The original room was heavily dated with 90s-era floral wallpaper, matching upholstery, and a green carpet that absorbed light. The heavy oak furniture and brass fixtures made the room feel cramped and visually 'busy' despite the functional layout.

Transformation Journey

The transformation journey involved a complete architectural and surface overhaul. By installing wainscoting and hardwood, we provided a high-end foundation. We then replaced every heavy traditional element with lighter, mixed-material pieces that emphasize texture over pattern, resulting in a cohesive, modern coastal look.

Designer Notes

I am particularly proud of how the black cane chairs transform the room from 'simple coastal' to 'sophisticated transitional.' The contrast they provide against the light blue walls is stunning. The AI successfully maintained the window placement and outdoor view while completely modernizing the interior shell.
