A sophisticated coastal evolution that swaps heavy patterns for airy linens and organic textures.

Welcome to your reimagined living space, where traditional grandeur meets modern coastal tranquility. We’ve transformed the room by stripping away the heavy, dated patterns of the past and introducing a palette of Alabaster white and soft creams. The result is a space that feels significantly larger, brighter, and much more inviting for contemporary living. The centerpiece of this redesign is the transition from bulky, patterned armchairs to sleek, Belgian-style linen slipcovered chairs that offer a sense of relaxed luxury. By replacing the dark, busy rug with a hand-woven Oushak cream wool piece, we've grounded the room in light. The addition of organic textures, such as the cane-back counter stools and the statement aqua glass vase, provides that 'shoreline' essence without feeling over-themed. We also made the strategic choice to remove the heavy fabric window swags, allowing the beautiful architectural arches of your home to finally take center stage.

The space now evokes a sense of airy sophistication and calm. It feels like a high-end coastal retreat—bright, breathable, and timelessly elegant.

Key Improvements

• Replaced dated damask armchairs with neutral linen slipcovered seating for a modern silhouette.
• Swapped the heavy red oriental rug for a light-reflecting Oushak cream wool rug.
• Removed restrictive fabric window swags to highlight the architectural beauty of the arched windows.
• Updated the bar area with organic cane-back stools to soften the transition from the kitchen.

Color Story

The palette is anchored by Alabaster white and soft sand tones, creating a neutral canvas that allows the slate blue and aqua accents to pop with coastal energy.

About the Original Room

The original room was bogged down by heavy, traditional aesthetics including busy patterns, yellow-toned walls, and dated window treatments. While the architectural bones—like the arched windows and built-ins—were excellent, they were overshadowed by the cluttered and dark decor.

Transformation Journey

Our journey began with 'clearing the air'—painting the walls a crisp Alabaster white and removing the heavy window swags. From there, we layered in high-quality textiles, replacing the patterned furniture with neutral linens. Finally, we curated organic decor elements like cane, wool, and glass to achieve a sophisticated shoreline vibe.

Designer Notes

I am particularly proud of how the removal of the window swags changed the entire verticality of the room. By letting the arches breathe and keeping the color palette tight, we turned a somewhat 'stuffy' space into a breezy, high-end sanctuary. The mix of the existing traditional chandelier with the new organic textures creates a lovely 'collected' feel.
