Design Assessment

A dated traditional space reborn as a sophisticated, light-filled sanctuary of navy and gold.

This transformation is a masterclass in modernizing a space while retaining a sense of timeless elegance. We moved away from the heavy, dated floral patterns and dark oak of the original room, replacing them with a crisp, gallery-white palette anchored by architectural wall moldings. The introduction of light white oak flooring instantly brightens the room, providing a warm foundation for the bold navy accents found in the velvet dining chairs and the sculptural sideboard. The room now breathes with a sophisticated, airy energy. Every element, from the gold sputnik chandelier to the arched mirror, has been carefully selected to create a high-contrast, luxurious environment. The addition of the fiddle leaf fig and the abstract triptych art adds a layer of curated personality, making the space feel like a high-end Parisian apartment rather than a standard dining room.

• Replaced dated green carpeting with premium white oak engineered flooring
• Removed floral wallpaper and border in favor of elegant 3D wall molding and gallery white paint
• Swapped heavy, traditional oak hutch for a sleek, navy blue lacquered sideboard
• Updated the lighting from a standard brass fixture to a modern gold sputnik chandelier

Color Story

A high-contrast palette featuring warm gallery whites and deep navy blue, tied together by consistent polished gold accents in the furniture legs, lighting, and decor.

About the Original Room

The original room was stuck in a dated traditional aesthetic, dominated by busy floral wallpaper, matching upholstery, and heavy oak furniture. The green carpet and floral drapes made the space feel dark, cluttered, and significantly older than its potential.

Transformation Journey

We began by stripping the room of its visual noise—the wallpaper and carpet—to create a clean slate. Architectural moldings were added to provide a 'Parisian' structure, and light oak floors were installed to maximize light. Finally, we layered in high-contrast furniture and gold fixtures to achieve a look that is both modern and opulent.

Designer Notes

The transformation here is truly transformative. The way the navy blue sideboard and chairs pop against the new white wainscoting is exactly what we aimed for. I'm particularly proud of how the gold accents are distributed evenly throughout the room, creating a sense of rhythm and intentionality.
